This beer can be built upon further with additional BBC hop additions in dry hop if required, increasing or decreasing our dose rates to learn how best to feature these new developments in your brews.

Description

Our experimental brew used to highlight how to use new developments in the world of hops from Simply Hops which we showcased at Brew Con 2019 in London.

The goal to have a modern hazy pale ale where hop flavours have the opportunity to shine through. We would encourage experimentation with this kit using varying amounts of Flex and Incognito, looking at possibly adding BBC hops on the dry hop at various stages of fermentation. There will be more varieties of Incognito coming so we are allowing you to make use of this kit as a base to build upon.

We would recommend some knowledge on your water and how best to treat water is needed for brewing this beer and to get the most from it. Would also encourage minimising oxygen contact on the beer during fermentation and packaging.

Note:  Flex or Incognito are not included in the kit as this is for you to decide how much to add to the kit and produce your own versions to your personal taste.

Crisp Vienna Malt (300 grams)
Dingemans Aromatic Malt (100 grams)
SIMPSONS MALT GOLDEN NAKED OATS® (2500 grams)
Oat Husks (600 grams)
WLP067 Coastal Haze  (1 packs)

THE MASH
Temperature °C: 66
Length (mins): 90
Out temp °C: 75

THE BOIL
Boil time (mins): 90

Additions and timing:

60 minutes add flex to create desired bitterness – we used 2g for 20 IBU (Not Included), but feel free to adjust

Secondary additions and timing:

After boil cool to 80c and whirlpool with incognito (not included) for 20minutes – we used 30g in our experiment, Verdant used 1.25g per L in Bene Collect

Yeast: WLP067 Coastal Haze
Fermentation temperature/steps: 20c until FG

Comments:

This is an experimental hop forward beer using no hop pellets or leaf, used to highlight the impact of some of the more modern techniques to deliver hop flavours in beer.

Flex is a flowable bittering hop agent that delivers roughly 10 IBU per 1g added at 60 minutes.

Ingconito is a pure hop addition for use in whirlpool, reducing losses from absorption and delivering consistent hop flavour. Verdant used 1.2g per L in their Bene Collect beer.

To fully achieve the mouthfeel and protect the hop oils from oxygenation we would recommend some knowledge and understanding of how to treat your water and reduce oxygen contact is gained before you attempt this recipe.
