To celebrate International Women’s Day in 2022, we wanted to get involved and to give you the chance to get involved with this special day. Something that celebrates the amazing women in beer from all levels and perspectives. Something that inspires more women to brew, work in beer and enjoy beer.

This recipe was created by the Women involved with the brew day at Elusive Brewing on the 8th of March, bringing together pro-brewers, beer writers, home brewers and women who enjoy beer.

The Women involved wanted to brew something that they enjoy drinking, but also wanted to make it slightly different to the norm, so with Hayley (brewer from Siren Craft and previously Fullers) taking the lead on the Elusive kit they felt it should be an ESB to use her brewing experience, then Ruth (from Elusive) and Jo (from The Malt Miller) wanted to mix it about a bit with Mandarina hitting the whirlpool and a good dose of Centennial as dry hop. All in all this modern twist on a traditional Extra Special Bitter will deliver great malty body and piney citrus notes.

With this all grain recipe kit we want you to join in and celebrate International Women’s Day, you don’t have to be a woman to get involved and support women in beer. You can choose to brew along with them on the day or brew the beer at any point in time that suits you, you can use it to encourage women to get involved and learn how to brew, or brew it for you or brew it to share and enjoy with others.

Mandarina Bavaria Pellets (186 grams)

THE BOIL
Boil time (mins): 60 minutes

Additions and timing:

FWH – add Northern Brewer

End of boil Whirlpool @ 80c for 20m with Mandarina Bavaria

Secondary additions and timing:

Once fermentation is complete dry Hop with Centennial, contact time 2 days

Yeast: Lallemand London
Fermentation temperature/steps: 19c until FG is reached
