Description

This 3 roller Malt Mill is constructed using materials that will give fabulous lasting service.

Cold rolled steel for the rollers, 6061 Aluminium body and hopper with long lasting hardened steel bearings.

The 3 roller design has the main advantage that it draws the grain better and gives improved throughput. The lower roller is mounted eccentrically to alter the crush distance, which is indicated on the end plates and adjusted by turning the knurled post.

Includes, hopper with a 4kg capacity and crank handle.

Width and roller diameter is optimised for use with power drill.

12 TPI knurl to efficiently pull grain through rollers while leaving hull intact to form an excellent filter bed for sparging.

Good quality mill, v.pleased with it. Some basic instructions would have been helpful. I took time to realise that to adjust, one knob is turned clockwise and the other anti- clockwise. Thanks to a Google search and You Tube.

Having owned a number of 2-roller mills over the decades – some excellent, some not so good – this 3-roller mill eclipses them all. Build quality is very good, and throughput is excellent. The hopper takes 5kg with ease and, using a low speed high torque drill, it takes just a few minutes to do the job. Quality of crush is good, too. Talking of drills, be aware that this is a beast of a mill and laughs at many of the cheaper cordless drills, which simply don’t have enough oomph to get it going. If you’ve got a nice high torque model you’ll probably be okay, but mine wouldn’t have any of it. The mill hand cranks nicely, but I’m knocking on a bit now and life’s too short for that malarkey, so having scoured the forums I discovered that fellow brewers the world over were opting for low speed high torque corded drills. After some research I declined the option to spend stupid money on an engineer’s drill and bought this budget job by Silverline: https://www.silverlinetools.com/en-GB/Product/ProductDetail?ModelName=123557. It’s guaranteed for 3 years, features a variable 0 – 800rpm speed and soft start, and works brilliantly with this mill. Expect to pay anything from £28 to £45 for it, depending on where you source it from. My only (slight) criticism of the mill is that it came without any instructions, and, unlike all the other mills I’ve bought before, isn’t supplied with a base, which is £17 extra. I suppose I should deduct a star for this, but to be honest it’s no big deal. I made my own base with a bit of MDF I had knocking about, and there’s no shortage of setup guides on YouTube, either. I enjoyed this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKuMM5j4Yts&t=418s Overall though I couldn’t be happier.
