Description

EBC 3

This terroir malt is produced from premium Eraclea barley grown near the Adriatic Sea northeast of Venice Italy. It has a noticeable malty-sweet aroma with notes of honey. Eraclea Pilsner Malt creates excellent medium-bodied Mediterranean-style pale lagers and ales with perfect stable foam.

The origin of Eraclea Malt

Saatgut Breun developed Eraclea Malt in Bavaria Germany through selective breeding in the 1970’s. Eraclea is a 2-row winter barley that does not do well in the humid growing conditions typical of Bavaria. This barley variety prefers arid conditions and has the important ability of being able to store humidity to sustain growth during the emergence phase.  The terroir of Italy’s Adriatic coast offers perfect conditions for Eraclea Pilsner Malt to flourish, with long sunny days and dry conditions encouraging its growth.

Perfect foundation grist for aromatic, light and mediterranean lagers and ales. Excellent modification and favorable protein and glucan levels. Excellent lautering properties. Provides finished beer with refreshing body and mouthfeel, as well as good foam development and head retention. Yields optimum results for any process from single-step to multi-step infusion, to detoction. Flavor: malty-sweet and gentle notes of honey

Perfect for us in Pilsner and Sour beers.

1 review for Weyermann Eraclea Pilsner Malt

  1. Paul Duckers

This malt produces a gorgeous pilsner. Definitely a hint of honey, that I’ve combined with the classic pilsner hop, Saaz, and the floral, lemon notes of Loral, to produce a brilliant beer.

Went full 5kg in a 21 litre batch, touch of acid malt, few oats with husks, for drainage and head retention and BOOM! Lovely beer, hugely enjoyed my lager-only drinking friend…and me.

I recommend this malt and will buy more of it.
