Elder Ron’s Red Barrel – Red IPA All Grain Recipe Kit

This Red IPA All Grain Kit is our inaugural All Grain Beer Kit collaboration in the Brew With You series, showcased on our YouTube channel, featured the incredible Brett Harman from Harman Brewing. Brett, an experienced and award-winning home brewer, has been a familiar face at The Malt Miller, showcasing both his brewing expertise and his growth over time. His setup, adorned with Star Wars-themed decor, is not only inspiring but also efficient, making brew days a breeze.

The beer we brewed together is named Elder Ron’s Red Barrel, a homage to Brett’s grandfather, who was a Drayman at Watney’s Brewery. This Red IPA All Grain Beer Kit perfectly balances roasty malt character with high West Coast hop aromas and flavours. Picture a warming stroll through a winter pine forest, with deep malt roastiness complemented by dank hop notes. Its deep red hue and creamy off-white head make it irresistible, sip after sip.

Brett’s 3-vessel brewing system, meticulously crafted over time, ensures an immersive brew day experience. While the recipe provided may yield slightly different results on other systems, the beer’s quality remains exceptional regardless of the setup.

THE BOIL

Hop / kettle additions and timing:

15 g (16 IBU) — Centennial 10% — First Wort
25 g (23 IBU) — Chinook UK 13% — Boil — 30 min
20 g (14 IBU) — Centennial 10% — Boil — 30 min
25 g (16 IBU) — Chinook UK 13% — Boil — 15 min

Whirlpool / hop stand:

65 g (5 IBU) — Centennial 10% — Aroma — 20 min hopstand @ 75 °C

Yeast: WHC LAX x 2 Packets

Fermentation temperature/steps: 18.5c – 7-10 days

Secondary additions:

100 g — Citra 12% — Dry Hop
100 g — Strata 12% — Dry Hop

Both added post fermentation at 13c for 2 days contact time in total before packaging
