Flying Dog Brewery were one of the first U.S. Craft breweries to be more widely available in the UK. Their beer styles in including a Belgian IPA ( Raging Bitch ) and their presentation and even beer names split the crowd, but opened the eyes of many to what can be achieved in beer. This was not lost on me ( Rob ) and one of my favourites is this amazing Imperial Porter.

We have included the amazing DRC ( double roasted crystal ) from Simpsons malts and just as the brewery do 2 strains of yeast. The clean west cost style get the fermentation sorted with the added yeast flavours from the Lalbrew Verdant.

Described by the brewery, “Bold and forceful, like the man it was brewed to honour – Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, Gonzo offers complex layers of roasted chocolate, coffee, brown sugar, and vanilla malt flavours balanced with a one-of-a-kind hop bite that hits you like a homemade firecracker.”

This beer can be drunk while fresh to enjoy the more forward hop profile, however aging in the bottle or keg produces a more rounded beer, simply delicious as a fireside beer but equally at home on a summer evening.
