Grainfather G30 – Sight Glass upgrade
The Grainfather G30 is the workhorse of many a home brewery. Although the newer G40 is a tremendous piece of kit, not everyone wants the ability to brew larger batches, or can afford to upgrade to the G30’s bigger brother.
But that doesn’t mean the G30 has to look dated. If you fancy giving yours a sexy new look, how about adding a sight glass? Watching the wort recirculate through a sight glass can be fascinating as you see this gradually clear while the G30 does its thing.
This isn’t an official Grainfather upgrade, but at The Malt Miller we’ve looked at the parts we have stocked from various manufacturers and have come up with a really smart solution.
The Brewtools TC34mm to 3/8” F-NPT fitting simply screws onto the ball valve on the recirculation arm of the G30 and makes this ready to accept the Brewtools 34mm sight glass. This is the modern minimalistic sight glass which looks super sleek.
The sight glass then combines with a 34mm TC hose barb to accommodate some Grainfather silicone tubing which replaces the recirculation arm.
Do be aware that this isn’t an official Grainfather upgrade and when the sight glass is in place for the mash recirculation, the safety valve will be removed. This will be back in place once the mash is complete, so the counterflow chiller can connect in the usual way.
A nice bit of bling, if pimping is your thing!
