A base of Vienna and Munich malts, then layered with a mix of speciality malts to create a rich wort that we blended with Cocoa husks to amplify the chocolate notes from the malts. The final result is a smooth and rich, easy drinking porter.

Beer Overview
Big Sur Moon from Burnt Mill Brewery is a rich, layered porter that balances roasted depth with smooth drinkability. Inspired by classic British dark beer traditions and refined with Burnt Mill’s modern precision, this is a porter built on nuance rather than heaviness.
Expect waves of roasted malt, dark chocolate and subtle coffee notes, supported by a rounded body and gentle bitterness. It’s indulgent without being overpowering—comforting, complex and beautifully structured.
Flavour Profile
Taste: Dark chocolate, roasted coffee, toasted malt and hints of caramel sweetness.
Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied, smooth and softly velvety.
Finish: Clean, lightly dry with lingering cocoa and roast.
Aroma
Aromatic roasted barley, cocoa powder and espresso, with subtle notes of dark bread and toasted grain.
Brewing Process & Uniqueness
Big Sur Moon is brewed with a carefully selected blend of roasted and specialty malts to create depth of flavour without excessive bitterness. Burnt Mill’s focus on balance ensures the roast character remains smooth and refined, avoiding harshness while delivering satisfying complexity.
The result is a modern porter that honours tradition—dark, flavourful and highly drinkable, with clarity and polish throughout.

About Burnt Mill Brewery
Based in Suffolk, Burnt Mill focus on brewing beers to a very high standard that are un-filtred and fresh. Owned by former home brewer Charles O’Reilly, Burnt Mill was founded in 2016 with a keen eye on quality and standards. Head Brewer Sophie de Ronde brought a wealth of brewing knowledge and talent. Between them and a fledgling team, they quickly established Burnt Mill as a brewery to be loved by beer fans around the country.
