Remarkably good stout kit that belies its price – as long as you use malt extract instead of sugar ( between 1 – 1.5kg of DME is perfect depending on how strong you want it) then you will end up with a 5 gallons of extremely drinkable stout that will put the current output of a certain Irish brewer to shame. Well done the Aussies and justifies the many good reviews of the last decade or so from UK home brew forums. I bought a second kit and added extra DME and also steeped some choc malt, roast barley and flaked barley in a small pan to add to the FV ( with such a dark brew the absence of malt enzymes for the flaked barley wasn’t a problem and the enhanced mouthfeel and head retention was definitely worth it – It was one of the best beers I’ve ever made regardless of grain bill.
