Follow the adventures of Jonny and Brad from the Craft Beer Channel. This all grain recipe kit goes with the series of 3 films they produced about brewing a sour beer to make the ultimate Fizzy Cola Bottle shandy using Square Root cola.

The kit includes all you need to brew the kettle sour beer that Jonny brews. Perfect for someone wanting a lovely lemon/lime citrus packed beer to drink on its own or to make a shandy/raddler with. Even if you don’t have experience of sour brewing the videos from Jonny


Ingredients Included

Dingemans Pilsen Malt (2000 grams)
Dingemans Pale Wheat Malt (2000 grams)
Rice Hulls (400 grams)
Magnum Pellets (5 grams)
Motueka Pellets (100 grams)
Lemondrop Pellets (100 grams)
WILDBREW HELVETICUS PITCH (1 packs)
SafAle US-05 11.5g (1 packs)


Method

Beer Style (main): Hybrid/Mixed
Beer Style (sub): Specialty Beer
Batch Size: 23L
Original Gravity: 1.040
Final Gravity: 1.10
ABV %: 4.02%
IBU: 11.4

THE MASH
Temperature °C: 68c
Length (mins): 60
Out temp °C: 75
Out time (mins): 10

THE BOIL
Boil time (mins): After the mash, boil for 5 mins then drop to 40C and pitch the Helveticus. Hold at that temp for three days

Additions and timing:

This is a kettle sour, so no hop additions until after the souring process.

Mash – boil for 5 mins – reduce temp to 40c – sour for 3 days keeping temp even.

Then return to boil for hop additions:

5g Magnum at 60 mins

Reduce temp to 80c and whirlpool

20g Motueka for 30 mins
20g Lemondrop for 30 mins

Secondary additions and timing:

Pitch US-05, ferment at 19c for 10 day, raise to 23c for 2 days for D-rest.

When FG achieved reduce temp to 14c and dry hop

80g Motueka for 2 days
80g Lemondrop for 2 days

Continue down to cold crash, dump hops and trub allowing beer to clear before packaging.
