Mangrove Jack’s Recipe Range gives you a flexible new way to brew at home. Start with one of six numbered malt extract cans, then brew it simply with dextrose or combine it with a Mangrove Jack’s Hop Blend, Brew Enhancer and Craft Series Yeast to create one of more than 40 different recipes. The formula stays the same — Can + Hop Blend + Enhancer + Craft Series Yeast = Recipe — but the beer you make is entirely up to you.

Mangrove Jack’s Recipe Range 5 Brown Ale is a hopped liquid malt extract base that delivers rich malt aromas, subtle hop character and a mellow, easy-drinking finish with gentle bitterness.

What Does 5 Brown Ale Taste Like?

5 Brown Ale produces a dark-brown beer with rich malt aromas, restrained hop character, a mellow body and gentle bitterness.

Its malt-led base makes it a versatile starting point for a range of darker beer styles, with the chosen hops, enhancer and yeast determining whether the finished beer leans towards nutty, earthy, fruity or fuller-bodied flavours.

Two Ways to Brew

Brew a Simple Brown Ale

Combine the can with 1kg of dextrose and use the 5g yeast sachet supplied under the lid.

This produces approximately 20 litres, or 35 pints, of mellow and easy-drinking brown ale at around 4.6% ABV.

Build a Recipe Range Beer

Use 5 Brown Ale as the base and combine it with your chosen Mangrove Jack’s Hop Blend, Brew Enhancer and Craft Series Yeast.

Changing these three ingredients allows the same malt extract base to create a completely different finished beer.

Mangrove Jack’s Recommended Recipe: English Brown Ale

For a mellow, malt-led and traditionally styled English Brown Ale, Mangrove Jack’s recommends:

• Can: 5 Brown Ale
• Hop Blend: H10 Earthy Hop Sachet
• Enhancer: E2 Medium Enhancer
• Yeast: M15 Empire Ale Yeast
• Makes: 20 litres
• Approximate ABV: 4.5%

The H10 Earthy Hop Blend adds restrained earthy hop character, while the E2 Medium Enhancer supports body and malt depth. M15 Empire Ale Yeast brings the rounded fermentation character associated with traditional English ales.
