Description

This 5 litre recipe kit features everything you need to brew a Traditional European Style Lager, as part of our Kitchen Brewer series or otherwise known as stove top brewing. This kit not only uses classic malts and hops to deliver delicious lager flavour but also a “real” lager yeast strain, which needs consideration if you plan to ferment in a non-pressurised fermenter as it will need to sit at around 10-12c, unless you plan to use something like a Pinter – as we did in our video for this recipe. If you do then you’ll be taking advantage of the benefits that pressurised fermentation brings. The fermentation can be done at ambient temperatures and will complete much faster, around 7 days.

Expect a beer which light, refreshing, balanced with sweet malt notes, floral and spice hop presence but crisp and dry from the yeast used.

About the Kitchen Brewer Range

WHC Dried Yeast – Einstein- 11g Packet (1 pack)

Final Gravity: 1.008

IBU: 26
Mash efficiency: 80
Brewing equipment: Stove Top

THE MASH
Temperature °C (Step 1): 65
Length (mins) (Step 1): 60

THE BOIL
Boil time (mins): 30

Hop / kettle additions and timing:

20g Saazer @ 30mins
20g Sazzer @ 15min
10g Sazzer @ 5min

Add yeast nutrient & Protofloc at 10mins before the end of the boil

Yeast: WHC Lab Einstein – 1 Packet
Fermentation temperature/steps: 10c – 2-3 weeks or 1 week at 18c if fermenting under pressure

Secondary additions:

To help the beer clear post fermentation add an optional dose of Clarity

Comments:

Post fermentation, the finished lager needs a period of conditioning – depending on your fermentation method this will vary. If yo are fermenting this in a standard fermenter than bottle after fermentation and allow the lager to sit at around 12c for 2-3 weeks in the bottles. If you are using a Pinter, as we did in our video, then a week or two in the fridge should be sufficient.
