Grainfather Electric Grain Mill

The Electric Grain Mill is motorised, compact and easy to use at home. It’s equipped with large, fluted rollers that crack the outer husk of the grain longitudinally, providing optimal surface area for your mash and a better filter bed for your sparge.

The removable grain hopper holds up to 1kg of grain at a time and with 10 easily adjustable gap settings, ranging from 0.8mm to 2mm, this mill has been engineered to crush a variety of grains. Crush different base malts and specialty grains, and even change the rate that your grain is crushed with the variable speed dial.

It’s easy to mount onto a workbench or bucket, but it works best with the Grain Mill Bamboo Mounting Board. Plus, the mill is easy to assemble thanks to its built-in motor and compact design. Simply attach the grain hopper. Set your desired gap setting by pulling the spring-loaded pin and rotating the dial. Add grain to the hopper and flick the switch to begin crushing.

Great bit of kit. Just done my first brew day crushing my grain with this excellent mill. Easy to use. Milled 4.2 kg of malt in 2 minutes on the recommended speed 4. Perfect crush grade. Beautifully clear wort, efficient sparge and hit my expected OG.

Fantastic piece of kit, used for the first time today, setting 6 for my base malts and speed 4, and the mill crushed the grains to perfection. Plus i can now buy uncrushed grains for super freshness! (and a longer shelf life). Highly recommended.

Great bit of kit. First time using a malt mill. Really impressed with how hungry this mill is for it’s size.
Crushed perfectly for use on my brewtools system.

After a long wait my Grainfather mill arrived a couple of weeks ago. Yesterday was the first time I had a chance to use it.
It’s a really solid, sturdy piece of kit and very well made.
Yesterday’s brew had 4.5kg of Maris Otter. 2kg was already crushed from a previous order, the remaining 2.5kg was crushed the evening before the brew using the grain mill. The crushing process was so quick and easy I might leave it until brew day next time. The only thing which would have made it even easier would have been if the hopper could hold up to 6kg of grain, but that’s a minor niggle.
Being motorised avoids having to attach a drill, support it and worry about setting the right speed, which is why I was willing to wait for these to arrive back in the country rather than buy anything else.
The last two brews using the pre crushed grain gave mash efficiencies (using Graham Wheeler’s ‘Beer Engine’ calculator) of 88/89%. Using the mix of pre crushed and fresh crushed grain yesterday the mash efficiency was 98%, a huge improvement. Looking forward to the next brew which will have 100% of the base malt crushed on the day.
Definitely a worthwhile purchase. It’s small enough to store easily and set up takes seconds.

I waivered justifying the expense for a while, but after using it, it’s worth it due to the increase in efficiency & time savings. I can’t believe how quick and effective it is. I don’t have to sit with my drill, trying not to go too slow or too fast, whilst wearing a mask for the grain dust. It’s a damn sight quieter, easy to use and so simple to adjust. I was going to know half a star off because of the small hopper, but it’s easier to store and no trouble to use a scoop. There’s also barely any grain dust.
